  • Altered Reality in Existing Footage: Digitally manipulating real-world events or locations, such as depicting a fictional fire engulfing a real building.
  • Fictional Events Presented as Real: Showcasing fabricated but realistic scenarios, like a tornado approaching a real town.

Transparency Measures: Labels and Visibility

To ensure viewers are well-informed, YouTube will display labels indicating the use of altered or synthetic media. These labels will appear in two key locations:

  • Expanded Video Descriptions: Viewers can easily access this information within the video description.
  • Video Player Integration: For sensitive topics like health or news, prominent labels will be directly visible within the video player itself.
