Vivo APEX 2019 Smartphone Innovation
Vivo APEX 2019 Smartphone Innovation
Ever since it was founded in 2009, Vivo has slowly but steadily established itself as a leading global technology company by introducing smartphone hardware and software innovations backed by extensive research and development efforts and manufacturing it for the mass market.
In 2018, Vivo thrusted into the limelight of smartphone development and technology when it introduced the world’s first notch-less full-screen concept smartphone and elevating selfie camera at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) with its APEX™ FullView.
“From day one, we already understood that innovations and relentless product development will be the driving force that will help grow our market,” said Zeng Kai, Vivo VP for Operations. “We are always inspired by our philosophy to create something different for consumers, and APEX was the realization of that.”
In just four months, Vivo delivered on its promise to mass produce a smartphone—Vivo NEX—with an elevating selfie camera that paved the way for a notch-less full-screen display and a host of breakthrough premium features.

These included the half-screen in-display fingerprint scanning technology, apps powered and enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI), and bezel-less display which competitors adopted for their own flagship products.
“Unlike other smartphone manufacturers who just follow industry trends, we chose to set ourselves apart by pioneering these innovations and changing the game of smartphone design,” noted Zeng.
With an aggressive global market expansion that began in 2014 that saw Vivo entering India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, Russia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Brunei, Macau, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and other countries; and with a catalogue of smartphones that sport trailblazing features, Vivo soon found itself among the world’s top 10 smartphone manufacturers.
This year, it aims to maintain its 7% global market share with a target production volume of less than 100 million smartphones.
At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Vivo once again introduced innovations that would not only demonstrate its mastery of creating new technology, but may also possibly redefine the future of smartphones on a global scale.
But instead of boldly showcasing its latest innovations for the world to see, Vivo’s APEX 2019 concept smartphone has been a display of minimalism, to reflect the new philosophy of the global technology company—less is more.
Bringing smartphone design to a whole new level, the APEX 2019 concept smartphone—Vivo’s first-ever 5G smartphone—sports a Super Unibody Design that eliminates the bezel, notch, all physical buttons, ports, and speakers.
This paves the way for all-new features—Touch Sense technology, a MagPort for battery charging and data transfer, and Body SoundCasting technology that turns the truly FullView™ display into a speaker—to make the APEX 2019 more compact.
The latest Vivo concept smartphone also features a full display fingerprint scanner while its 5G mobile network capability ensures faster connectivity.
“We are very excited with how these new technologies will affect the landscape of smartphone development in the region and how consumers will appreciate these futuristic innovations, especially since some of these could be available in the market soon,” said Zeng.
The Vivo APEX™ concept smartphone was presented recently to local tech experts and smartphone enthusiasts through an exclusive event in Pasig City.
