Tears from Heaven: CHILD Haus Celebrates 21 Years
On November 5, 2023, the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall was transformed into a haven of hope and resilience as CHILD Haus, an institution dedicated to providing care and support to children with cancer and their families, celebrated its 21st anniversary.
The event, led by CHILD Haus founder Ricky Reyes and SM Prime Holdings Inc. Chairman of the Executive Committee Hans Sy, was a heartwarming celebration of the many lives that CHILD Haus has touched over the years.
In attendance were several individuals and companies who have been instrumental in supporting CHILD Haus’s mission, as well as many children who have been “adopted” by the organization and now call it home. The media was also present, recognizing the impact that CHILD Haus has had on countless children and their families.
Three CHILD Haus stories, featuring Aya, Laura, and Jessa, were turned into video vignettes that highlighted the message of hope and the life-saving work of the organization. These stories touched the hearts of everyone in the audience, including even the most seasoned press photographers.
After a heartwarming welcome from Ricky Reyes, Hans Sy took the stage to present plaques of appreciation to the many friends of CHILD Haus whose generous donations have made the organization’s work possible.
CHILD Haus provides food and shelter to children with cancer and their families, as well as access to medical care and other support services. The organization currently has two locations, one in Manila and one in Quezon City. Children and their families can stay at CHILD Haus for as long as needed, until the children are declared cancer-free and/or have completed their treatments and medical procedures.
Karylle, a longtime supporter of CHILD Haus, led the children in a rousing song composed by her husband, Yael Yuzon. Ricky Reyes’ daughter also sang a rendition of Florante’s “Handog” that had been reworded to fit the sentiments of the children at CHILD Haus. These were two songs that the children had learned and practiced as a “thank you” to the many guests who have helped make the “haus” a reality.
In the end, both Ricky Reyes and Hans Sy acknowledged the significance of the event, which commemorates 21 years of compassion, fortitude, and the spirit of giving and sharing.
CHILD Haus is a beacon of hope for children with cancer and their families. It is a place where they can find the care and support they need to fight through this difficult journey. The organization’s 21st anniversary celebration was a reminder of the many lives that have been touched by its work, and a testament to the power of compassion and generosity.
