Samsung Unveils SmartThings Station at CES 2023, Making Smarter Homes Accessible for Everyone

The new, easy-to-use smart home hub offers simple control and interoperability of multiple connected devices

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. unveiled SmartThings Station, a cheap and user-friendly hub for smart homes that also doubles as a fast charging station.

Users need reliable, easy-to-use methods to connect an increasing number of gadgets as the smart home industry expands. With the ease of use that customers have come to expect from Samsung, SmartThings Station provides simple setup and interoperability with a variety of smart home products, including Matter devices. Users may automate various areas of their home environment with SmartThings Station, creating routines that make their days more convenient and aid in reducing energy consumption by effortlessly turning off lights and appliances.

A Smarter Home, With Minimal Effort

Setting up Samsung’s SmartThings Station is simple. Pop-up messages will show up on a user’s Samsung Galaxy smartphone when they turn on the device for the first time to aid in seamlessly guiding users through the connecting procedure. The opportunity to quickly onboard devices with a QR code scan using a smartphone camera is also available to users.

Intuitively Adapts to Users Daily Routines

Thermostats, lighting, and power outlets are just a few of the things that a smart home hub may help link to other devices connected to the smart home server so they can all work together to create a harmonious atmosphere. Instead than forcing users to manually control individual devices, SmartThings Station makes it simple to automate preset routines that have been built with the SmartThings mobile app.

Users can initiate a routine they’ve set up in their SmartThings app by pressing the Smart Button on the SmartThings Station. When it’s time for bed, for instance, a short tap could start a sleep routine that could dim the lights, draw the shades, and lower the temperature. Another option is to start the TV and dim the lights if a movie night is planned. The SmartThings Station can turn off outlets and unneeded appliances when you leave the house to save energy and turn on a security system. Users could also want a gaming routine that turns on ‘Do not Disturb’ mode and particular TV and lighting settings.

Customers can activate up to three different routines with just a single press of the Smart Button, with activations for short, long, and double presses. Whether a person is at home or away, routines can be started using the SmartThings app.

Find and Manage Your Devices around Home More Accurately

Samsung’s SmartThings Find, a fast expanding asset tracking service, is also connected with SmartThings Station. Double tapping the Smart Button activates your nearby phone, making it easier to find lost devices for consumers.

SmartThings Station, which acts as an always-at-home device scanner, enables Samsung Galaxy users to keep track of the whereabouts of all of their registered devices, including smartphones, tablets, watches, earphones, and keychains or wallets with a Galaxy SmartTag or SmartTag+ device attached. The SmartThings Station will notify consumers when a tag or linked smart device leaves or returns to the home and broadcast an alert on their smartphone by regularly scanning for devices.

A Fast Charging Pad That Fits Perfectly in a Smart Home

The SmartThings Station is also a potent wireless charging pad with a 15W maximum output. Fast charging is a brilliant addition to a Smart Home hub since it meshes so seamlessly with daily routines. Users can opt to receive a notification when charging is finished, allowing them to resume play where they left off or charge another device.

Availability

SmartThings Station will launch in the U.S. and Korea. The device will be available in black or white from early February 2023 in the U.S. market.
