ONE Championship: New Era – Who Will Win?
ONE Championship: New Era
Main Card Assessment and Bold Predictions Part 1 of 2:
Main Event: Eduard Folayang vs. Shinya Aoki
The classic striker vs grappler. The rematch for the ONE Championship Lightweight Crown.
The first defense of his newly regained ONE Championship Lightweight belt will prove to the world that Eduard Folayang’s masterful execution of their game plan last outing was not a fluke. Although Shinya Aoki is no doubt one of the best grapplers in the world, with submission wins over the who’s who in the grappling and MMA world. Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki was not able to neutralize Eduard “The Landslide” Folayang on the ground more than 2 years ago.
In the first round, Aoki locks a body triangle and works on a choke. But Folayang was able to escape with his unorthodox ground game and brute strength. I see nothing different in this rematch, except that Folayang has greatly improved his ground game and striking since then. And I see him winning via KO or TKO.

Co-Main Event: Xiong Jing Nan vs Angela Lee
The Champion vs Champion
Angela Lee steps up in weight class to challenge Xiong Jing Nan for the women’s strawweight world championship. After pummeling through her division, will Angela Lee make it to the history books again and be the first woman to ever do it in ONE Championship? Or will Xiong Jing Nan hand Lee her first defeat?
This will be tough to call. Skills wise both are at the peak of their game. It all boils down to who is hungrier, who wants it more. I see Xiong Jing Nan spoiling Angela Lee’s plans.
Aung La Nsang vs Ken Hasegawa
Another great match-up as both men are equally skilled. This rematch needs to happen.
Their last match up was a barn burner with both warriors going toe-to-toe. In the earlier rounds, Ken Hasegawa counters the “Burmese Python’s” every move. Dictating the pace at times, even getting Aung La in trouble.
Both men gave it their all. Bloodied, bruised and clearly exhausted. In the fifth and final round, only the toughest survived. Aung La Nsang gathered what remains of his strength and unleashed an uppercut. Dropping Hasegawa.
Again, this will be difficult to call and I will not predict who will win. Instead, I will reveal who I want to win. Aung La Nsang.
A dream match-up will follow with whoever wins this rematch. And it will be a delight to see Myanmar’s own Aung La Nsang versus that of the Philippines, Brandon Vera, for the ONE Championship Light Heavyweight belt.
Standby for Part 2.
