Intel Launches Updates Spectre for 7th, 8th gen CPUs
Intel Launches Updates Spectre for 7th, 8th gen CPUs. The patch is for Kaby Lake-, Coffee Lake-, and Skylake-based platforms. This will cover the 6th, 7th, 8th generation of the CPU product lines. The new patch also covers the X- Series of CPU as well as the Xeon D processors for data centers. The patch will be coming thru OEM firmware push updates.
This is the latest patch for the Spectre, since the last patch that was released caused a spontaneous reboot. Intel executive vice president Navin Shenoy recommended users skip the patches until a better version could be deployed. The latest patch according to Intel was extensively tested to prevent any issues.
The patch still comes almost two months after the CPU defects was first exposed and almost nine months after Intel got first wind of the information of the possible flaws. Intel initially played down the issues and even went as far as stating that the average computer users should not find it significant and would be mitigated over time. The also promised a solution to the issue within a week’s time to solve the issue.
With more than enough time on their hands and a very relaxed attitude on the issue, Intel has not yet shown the capability to address and fix the issue properly. The competition in the CPU chips is now heating ups since AMD Ryzen has come into the scene and it is still unknown how this issue will impact Intel’s market dominance. We will be keeping tabs on the latest developments on the Spectre fix and will keep you updated if this latest patch will definitely and definitively address the issue.
