Sony Enhances ‘Monitor & Control’ Mobile App for Video Creators with New Features

Sony has announced a significant update to its mobile application, “Monitor & Control,” specifically designed for video creators. The new software update, “Monitor & Control Ver2.2.0,” rolled out starting November 13, 2024, aims to enhance the app’s monitoring capabilities, offering improved usability and functionality for video professionals.

Overview of ‘Monitor & Control’ App

The “Monitor & Control” app is a powerful tool that enables both wireless and wired USB video monitoring of compatible cameras via smartphone or tablet screens. This app is essential for video creators who require precise exposure determination, intuitive focus operation, and robust monitoring features. With tools such as false color and waveform monitors, it allows creators to achieve accurate and consistent exposure settings in various shooting environments.

Key Updates in Ver2.2.0

The latest update to the “Monitor & Control” app includes several key enhancements designed to streamline the video production process. These updates focus on expanding single-camera monitoring features and enhancing the multi-camera monitoring function.

Expansion of Single Camera Monitoring Features

Among the new additions are aspect markers and safety zone displays on the monitoring screen. These features are crucial for ensuring the correct angle of view and composition during shooting, providing video creators with the tools needed to capture their footage precisely as intended.

Enhanced Multi-Camera Monitoring Function

The Multi-Camera Monitoring function has been significantly upgraded. Previously, this feature allowed the wireless connection of up to four cameras to a single iPad, enabling recording start/stop, settings list display, and battery level monitoring. With the new update, users can now adjust settings for each camera individually without switching between screens. This enhancement allows for operations such as adjusting shutter speed or exposure for each camera directly from the iPad, all while monitoring multiple cameras simultaneously. This feature requires iPadOS 16.0 or later.

Compatible Camera Models

The current list of compatible camera models includes:

  • BURANO
  • PXW-Z200/HXR-NX800
  • FX6, FX3, FX30
  • α1, α9 III, α7R V, α7S III, α7 IV, ZV-E1

Exhibition at Inter BEE 2024

Sony showcased these expanded features at the Inter BEE 2024, a comprehensive media event held at Makuhari Messe from November 13 to 15. The event provided video professionals with an opportunity to see the enhanced “Monitor & Control” app in action and understand how it can improve their workflow and productivity.
