Vivo Supports Filipino Filmmaker’s Dream to Inspire Climate Action with V40

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Award-winning independent Filipino filmmaker Joseph Abello has taken his climate advocacy to a new level by using the vivo V40 to create a compelling short film for the Oscar M. Lopez Foundation’s Mga Kwento ng Klima (MKK) Short Films 2024. This annual competition invites filmmakers to depict the unique Filipino experience of climate change, emphasizing the pressing need for climate action.

A Vision for Change

Abello, known for his award-winning films “What Home Feels Like” and “Double Twisting Double Back,” used the V40 to produce “Water for Three Sisters,” capturing the stark reality of water interruptions in his hometown of Cainta, Rizal. The film aims to inspire viewers to reflect on the climate-driven challenges affecting communities across the Philippines.

“As a filmmaker, it’s very powerful to be a filmmaker because people watch us, we can influence people through our content. So, it’s really time to do something more than just fun or more than just content. Do something na may laman, do something that can really influence people for the good,” Abello shared.

Choosing the Perfect Tool: vivo V40

Vivo Supports Filipino Filmmaker’s dream and Abello upgraded from the vivo V21 to the V40 specifically for this project. The vivo V40, co-engineered with the renowned German optics company ZEISS, features three 50MP cameras that deliver professional-grade image quality, aligning perfectly with Abello’s creative vision.

“When I found out that the vivo V40 is co-engineered by ZEISS, I knew it was the perfect phone for shooting my short film. So, when deciding which mobile phone to use for this project, I knew I had to go with vivo. Like I said, I really trust vivo as a brand,” Abello explained.

Achieving Cinematic Quality

Abello shot his film using the vivo V40’s 4K video resolution at 30 frames per second, achieving a cinematic quality comparable to high-end cameras. “For me, using the vivo V40 allows me to create a film not just in a budget-friendly way but at the same time, produce a film with a quality that seems like it was shot using an expensive filmmaking camera,” he said.

Expressing his gratitude to vivo Philippines, Abello added, “Thank you so much vivo Philippines for helping me create my short film using your vivo V40, co-engineered by ZEISS. It really helped me produce a quality-looking short film.”

Joseph Abello’s “Water for Three Sisters” exemplifies how technology can be harnessed to address pressing social issues like climate change. By using the vivo V40, Abello not only showcases his filmmaking prowess but also highlights the potential of mobile technology in producing high-quality films. This collaboration between a talented filmmaker and a leading tech brand like vivo underscores the importance of innovation in driving positive change and inspiring action.
